Remembering to breathe, and watching lots of videos

There is a lot to get to here. This post is all over the place emotionally and pop culturally. It was that kind of a week.

Let us proceed.
- Charlie Sheen: Maybe not so much with the winning after all. I never laughed at his seeming self-destruction, but I found some of the things he said funny. His phrases and his Twitpics are bizarre and off the wall. There is nothing in those actions that I wouldn't expect from a crazy rock star. If you were in a band like Poison, Guns N' Roses, or anything similar, that debauchery almost came with the territory. But violence against women? Sorry, there's no excuse. All of a sudden, the antics don't seem funny anymore.

- This piece by Emma Woolley is heart-wrenching in its familiarity, but it helps to remember to breathe. I think just about anyone can relate, right?

- This is also heart-wrenching. Patrick Carney, the totally awesome drummer from The Black Keys, used to be married to Denise Grollmus. What was that like? Good, and then bad. And then very, very bad. This is her story. Brutal, in so many ways. The parts about Dan aren't too good either.

- On a much lighter note, I'm posting this because it cheers me up and it reminds me of my golden retriever. He can get a little hyper sometimes, and then he'll jump around like this. Enjoy these 43 seconds of penguin cuteness.


- While we're on the subject of penguins and snow, I could really go for a nice, hot vacation, just for a little bit. I haven't taken a vacation day in a long time. But I've never been to the typical hot getaways, so I'm not sure where I should look. Where should I look, oh wise travel editors? (That means you, readers.)

- The era of curatorial nerdism. It's going to be pretentious and watered-down. Why, Patton Oswalt? Why?

- Will Wonder Woman ever look like an Amazon woman? Not if the people in charge can help it.

- At long last, I got back to drawing. Here is Spock, the Zachary Quinto edition. I'm working on Kirk at the moment.

- I also got back to making music. Being without a band is limiting, but I'm putting together some ideas on guitar anyway. For example: Echoes and Memories (lyrics written pre-unengagement), and a Britney Spears tune. (I know, like anyone wants to hear no-name, low-fi covers. Oh well.)

- Album of the week goes to Dum Dum Girls, for I Will Be. 28 minutes of low-fi rock with a hint of surf. This all-girl band puts on a hell of a live show, too.

- The song of the week award is stuck in a three-way tie, and it depends on whether you want something moody, something peppy, or something in-between. I've been flipping around between a familiar song (The National - Anyone's Ghost), and two that are new to me (Foster the People - Pumped Up Kicks, and Magnetic Fields - I Don't Want to Get Over You). Different kinds of awesome.







- As we near the end of this post, high hopes of the week (the year?) go to the news that A Dance with Dragons will actually (no, really) be published this summer. All I can say is I agree with @samuraislider.

But hey, the new, full trailer for A Game of Thrones is out, and it is stunning work.
